GE Aerospace Awarded $5 Billion Contract for Fighter Jet Engines

GE Aerospace has secured a $5 billion contract with the U.S. Air Force to develop and deliver F110-GE-129 engines as part of foreign military sales. These engines, which have powered a variety of combat aircraft since their introduction in 1992, are a critical component for maintaining the operational readiness of fleets such as the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The contract includes providing the F110-GE-129 engine solution, along with spare parts and related services, to meet the evolving needs of international partners. With over 11 million flight hours accumulated, the F110 family of engines is regarded for its performance, reliability, and durability across various military platforms worldwide.

The F110-GE-129 engine, a turbofan solution, offers a thrust of 13,154 kilograms and is 4.6 meters in length, with a diameter of 118 cm. It is capable of processing airflow of up to 122.4 kilograms per second.

This contract highlights GE Aerospace’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the performance of fighter jets that are vital for the defense of allied nations. The ongoing partnership with the U.S. Air Force underscores the importance of the F110-GE-129 engine in ensuring the effectiveness of these critical military assets.

In addition to the U.S. Air Force’s F-15 and F-16 aircraft, the F110-GE-129 is also integrated into Japan’s Mitsubishi F-2 Viper Zero, showcasing its global presence. In addition, the company recently signed contracts to support the Indian Air Force’s AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and provide engines for the Polish Armed Forces’ Apache Guardian rotorcraft. Furthermore, GE is collaborating with the U.S. Army on engines for the upcoming Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft and the recapitalization of the KC-135 refueling aircraft.

This comprehensive approach positions GE Aerospace as a key player in ensuring the reliability and performance of military aviation systems worldwide.
