A new extreme solution for Apple users to protect their data – lockdown mode. This new security feature will be available to safeguard high-risk users like human rights advocates, journalists, and dissidents from targeted spyware assaults. When used, the Lockdown Mode would give Apple users messaging, online browsing, and connection safeguards meant to prevent mercenary spyware, such as government-backed hackers that infect apple devices with malware.

According to Apple.com lockdown mode “is an extreme, optional protection for the very small number of users who face grave, targeted threats to their digital security.”

“Most message attachment types other than images are blocked. Some features, like link previews, are disabled. Certain complex web technologies are disabled unless the user excludes a trusted site from Lockdown Mode. Etc.” writes Apple.com, showing the extreme methods some people must require to protect their data.

In addition, Apple is also providing details of its $10 M grant to bolster research exposing such threats.
