There are many systems out there on the perimeter security market, the question is how to best combine them for maximum protection.

The first line of attack is the one you’d need to defend first, too. Outer perimeter security is paramount. Inertial fence protection systems, i.e. sensors that can be easily and quickly installed on pre-existing structures (fences, walls, even corridors, etc.), are the first and vital contraption in our toolbox. If set up correctly to cover all possible points of ingress, and combined with effective perimeter intrusion monitoring software, these can provide a good-enough solution for simple, low-threat installations.

If this level if protection is not enough, however, a microwave barrier can be the most reliable intrusion detection mechanism for outdoor perimeter protection. These systems work by developing an electromagnetic beam of high frequency microwave beams to create an invisible intrusion-detection “wall” all around a perimeter. When an intruder crosses the “wall,” variations in the beam alert the system to an intrusion, which can in turn alert guards to examine the intrusion site.

Another option for outdoor protection comes in the form of infrared barriers. These can work extremely well in doors and windows as well. Infrared barriers come with another perk: easy installation, as active infrared hybrid range barriers can come in bi-directional cell technology. That is, each cell has both a transmitter and a receiver.

But the best protection comes from integrating different types of technologies for increased protections. Doppler, infrared, and microwave sensors working in tandem can overcome the limitations of each technology to create a holistic picture of what’s happening out in the field, at your barrier, where it really matters.
