Russia’s new aerial defence

droneswarm-590x392The Russian corporation Rostec reveals a new technology to intercept UAVs, missiles or any other guided electronic attack weapon. The system uses a sort of high-frequency “cannon” that creates an air-exclusion zone of about 10km with radiation, although specifics have not been reported. The exposure to this radiation created by the system interrupts the electronic systems in aerial vehicles in low altitudes, preventing them from hitting the target.

When installed on a special platform, the system should provide full protection inside the radius. A source in Rostec claims that the system will be used in the future to test military radio-electronic systems for resistance to the high-radiation produced by the “cannon”.

The system was presented at the Army-2015 Expo – an international military forum, which was held near Moscow in the past few days.

Unlike previous aerial defence system, this technology allows saving precious resources in defending against areial attacks, especially attacks by several UAVs attacking as a group – a situation that causes a problem to any aerial defence system known today. The system action via high frequency inside the radius allows it to produce full spatial protection without wasing ammunition or resources.
