U.S DHS Awards New Security Contracts

The Homeland Security Department awarded a pair of multi-million dollar contracts aimed at security, one in biometric identification and one in network security.

After months of working through legal wrinkles, DHS announced on Feb. 28 that Miami-based Xtec Inc. received the 10-year, $102.8 million task order for identity management support and services. DHS originally awarded the badging-system contract to Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services last September, but the award was contested by Xtec, which contended that “the agency did not reasonably evaluate proposals,” Ralph White, GAO managing associate general counsel, told Nextgov. The award is part of the department’s HSPD-12 program.

HP Enterprises Services was on the winning end of DHS’ latest award for continuing diagnostics and mitigation services, designed to protect government networks. The blanket purchasing agreement, awarded Feb. 26, is worth up to $32.4 million and will provide services for as many as 33 federal agencies. Last August, HP was one of 17 companies selected under a one-year, $6 billion General Services Administration blanket purchasing agreement for CDM tools and continuous monitoring as a service.
