Aerial Threats in the Modern Era Conference

Aerial Threats in the Modern Era Conference

.

The change in the nature of the threat faced by the State of Israel in the last few decades brings to the fore the necessity to prepare for confrontations with a wide range of dangers.

In addition to traditional armies, Israel has to face an array of aerial threats, from short-range mortar bombs, through rockets and missiles and cruise missiles, to miniaturized, explosive-bearing UAVs.

The severity of these threats increases with time: as the number of warheads and the measure of destruction increase, so do their dispersal, range and, worst of all, accuracy. This is a strategic challenge of the highest order for the State of Israel.

In recent years, Israel has, in response to the range of threats, formulated a layered defense doctrine based on the Iron Dome and David’s Sling interceptors and the Arrow ballistic missile.

This doctrine was adopted and developed after having been selected from among other defense alternatives.
