New cyber research center established by TAU * Headed by Prof. Yitzhak Ben-Israel, Chairman of the National Research and Development Council

Tel Aviv University opened its new cyber center this week, focusing on multi-disciplinary research. The center will be headed by Maj. Gen. (Res.) Professor Yitzhak Ben-Israel, also the Chairman of the National Council for Research and Development.

The new center will research various aspects of cyber defense; cryptography; big data analysis; legal and social aspects of cyber; issues combining social and security concerns; and an interdisciplinary combination of cyber, computer sciences and computer engineering.

The starting budget of the center will be 10 million shekels, half of it funded by Israel’s government through the national cyber command, with the other half funded by the university itself. Prof. Ben-Israel stated that the new cyber center will focus on research, conferences, seminars, scholarships and study programs for students at all academic levels. He expressed hope that TAU will become a central source for experience in the cyber field.
