Fast Draw – NATO Protecting Israel ?

I have seen recent interviews with former senior IDF officers who expressed some support for the idea. They, too, live in a fantasy world. Can you actually imagine some international force protecting Israel against terrorists? Foreign soldiers endangering their lives to prevent terror in the west bank? I can’t.

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard several similar ideas. One fantastic plan proposed a system of drones, operated by foreign forces, that will monitor the sky over Judea and Samaria and prevent terror. Please… it sounds like a script for a comedy flick, and a bad one at that. Only Israel can maintain its own security, no foreign force ever will.

We can clearly see how effective these international forces are, like the one stationed in the Golan Heights. It’s just there for show, meant to provide jobs for foreign soldiers. The entire organization is useless and so is every one of its units. A few soldiers in crumbling armored vehicles can’t stop even a beginner-level terrorist in his first year of internship.

The entire idea of a NATO force in the west bank was probably hatched during a pleasant discussion between two senior U.S. or EU officials, both enjoying some fine whiskey as they planned a better future for humanity. The entire concept has no basis in reality.

Minister Naftali Bennet responded recently to these statements, and reminded everyone that after the Second Lebanon War, according to U.N. resolution 1701, international forces should have prevented rockets and missiles from entering Lebanon. “Let’s see the results,” said Bennet: “There are more than 100,000 missiles in southern Lebanon, all there under the watchful eye of international forces. So, despite this barrage of innovative and imaginative rhetoric, I’d rather stay conservative. Only the IDF will protect our children and to all other suggestions we say ‘no thanks’.”

But don’t worry. None of these ridiculous plans will be carried out, as there won’t be any agreement with the Palestinians. It just can’t happen. There’s no trust, Mahmoud Abbas is weak and still dreams of returning to Tsfat and Jaffa. Under these conditions an agreement is simply impossible to reach.
