The IDF’s general staff has begun recruiting personnel for new positions: division legal advisor, brigade legal advisor, regiment legal advisor, company legal advisor and a personal legal advisor for officers.

Now, doesn’t that sound surreal?

Well, true, but all this seems in place, since, after all, the IDF recently announced that following the decision by its Military Advocate General Major General Danny Efroni, the army launched six additional Military Police (MP) investigations. The most significant of these is an inquiry into the attack on an UNRWA school at Gabaliah, which claimed the lives of some twenty Palestinians, or so they Palestinians claim.

The IDF’s announcements said as follows: “the Military Advocate General received the findings, which raise well founded suspicions that the attack was carried out in breach of IDF protocol. Consequently, he decided to launch an MP investigation into the circumstances surrounding this event.”

From now on, each IDF soldier who is fired upon, will as the nearest legal advisor to reach their post there and then to advise them and clear them to fire. Each gunner will also request a confirmation before firing each shell. Sounds surreal, right? Well, those who make such surreal decisions, to open surreal investigations, is creating a surreal reality which undermines Israel’s security.

Last weekend, the UN Council on Human Rights announced that ISIS, the Islamic State, has “apparently” perpetrated a genocide against the Yezidi minority in Iraq, as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes against civilians, including children. Yes, they did say “apparently”.

Last September, the UN Council on Human Rights opened its own investigation after ISIS took control of vast areas in Northern Iraq. According to the council, “there is information pointing to genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes,” so the UN Security Council should “consider referring this matter to the International Criminal Court.”

So let’s see. Apparently, even if they produce the head of a Yezidi child in New York, they will still have their doubts. Their statement quoted above is so hypocritical and superficial. What else would it take for the honored members of the council, who are so quick to condemn Israel without so much as an “apparently”, to do something to stop ISIS’ horrors? I wouldn’t hold my breath. They will do nothing. They simply can’t.

What an amazing American invention. A new system which prevents any piece of intelligence to reach the Oval Office. The system has been tries and tested, and it is working beautifully. No US intelligence agencies’ gathered material reaches President Obama’s.

This way, the President can make “objective” decisions regardless of the real world. When you persist with the nuclear talks with Iran when it is so clear that Teheran has been perpetrating one of the greatest feats of deception in history, you are not in touch with reality. So in the absence of any actual intelligence blocking system in place, the only conclusion is that the US administration would rather be fooled, despite having all the data right before them.

Here’s an example. According to a recent leak, the draft permanent agreement US and Iranian representatives are discussing, calls for Iran to reduce the number of its centrifuges by 40% for a decade. In exchange, the sanctions be eased and gradually lifted, perhaps even to the point of removing various elements in the UN’s arms embargo on Iran.

That’s great. Nevertheless, 40% of what, exactly? Whatever the number of centrifuges Iran says it has, could be false. See? Their constantly bluffing.

The election polls all proved a major, shameful flop. But it is actually a sequel to the shameful way all commentators acted during “Operation Protective Edge”. They knew everything and nothing. They talked incessantly on TV on every channel both in Israel and worldwide, but a great deal of what they said had nothing to do with reality.

They really outdid themselves when a transcript of the conversation between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu was circulated in the media. And here I was, thinking they were speaking on a secure line.

How much yarn are we going to be further subjected to?

Israel’s security problems are far from being dispelled by the election. I hope Prime Minister Netanyahu appoints his new cabinet ministers strictly on the basis of merit, as far as it abounds (or not). Would I bet on it? I’m not sure.
