In his article in the Daily Telegraph, PM Cameron said “ISIL poses a direct and deadly threat to Britain… We cannot turn a blind eye and assume that there will not be a cost for us if we do, we would be facing a terrorist state on the shores of the Mediterranean and bordering a NATO member.”

Too little, too late, I would say. Islamist extremism, which has taken on various names, is already at a stage where it can no longer be stopped. This has been going on in the UK and in nearly each and every country in Europe. It is enough to see the violent demonstrations across several European capitals in the course of Operation Protective Edge. I am referring to the violent events right at the city center in Paris, London, Brussels, and so on. In some of these cases, the police fled the scene before the advancing violent mob.

One of the most unforgettable images was that of a French police car under attack by a raging Muslim mob. The police officers simply turned the car round and fled.

So it is a little too late now, to recall the threat radical Islam poses for Europe as a whole. This form of Muslim extremism is operating in broad daylight, and the Europeans failed to realize what was going on around them, at least thus far.

The US also realized, rather belatedly, what the radical organizations have been doing in Iraq and delivered a few airstrikes, but the Americans too did not act as forcefully as they should have. Damaging a murderous organization like ISIL seriously takes use of force, a great deal of force, and this is yet to happen.

So Europe is beginning to realize ISIL and or its affiliates are taking root in Europe in various forms, and at the moment no one is opposing them. This is a very strange situation: one of the most murderous organizations the world has ever seen is running rampant in Europe, where the governments are simply treating this like the flu.

It really doesn’t take state of the art intelligence services to realize the threat, but even if what we are hearing right now is the wakeup call, the European body as a whole is still asleep.

Even in Saudi Arabia they have realized the extent of the problem. They too realize this is hardly your garden variety radical Islamic organization, but rather an organization which resorts to genocide as a modus operandi. The image ISIL has been releasing is are reminiscent of the Nazi era, in full view of the cameras.

A bunch of aircraft throwing a few bombs on ISIL strongholds in Iraq will do little to stop it.
