No one knows what they’re doing anymore. Several weeks after the decision to halt the production of chemical protection kits, the Israeli security establishment will conduct a chemical attack drill.

Last month the security establishment recommended stopping all production and distribution of protection kits to civilians, following the disarmament agreement with Syria. But lo and behold, the same security establishment will conduct a chemical attack drill next week. Confused? Because we sure are.

So who has more accurate information? Are there two security establishments, each with its own intelligence agencies? Top security establishment figures stressed that the drill is conducted as a part of the Defense Ministry planned timetables, and “the drill was scheduled a long time ago, it has nothing to do with current events.”

The drill will be conducted next Wednesday in the Jerusalem district, and will include the relevant emergency and government services: The police, Magen David Adom medical emergency service, the fire fighting authority, the Home Front Command, the Environmental Protection Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Jerusalem municipality and the Hadassah Ein Karem hospital.

First there weren’t enough chemical protection kits, then there was panic. Then they decided to stop production entirely, and now they’re conducting an all-out chemical attack simulation. Someone is probably laughing behind our backs, or worse: Someone has no idea what they’re doing…
