Israeli sources told I-HLS that Vietnam is in the first stages of developing local UAS. This effort is being coordinated with Vietnam’s Institute of Space Technology.

This Vietnamese institute has conducted test flights over the South China Sea, to test their respective autonomous flight control system as well as their optronic payloads. But their systems are very basic and therefore Vietnam is looking for foreign designs.

Israeli sources said that one UAS South-East Asian country is considering within its maritime configuration, is the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Heron -1. This is an operational system that is currently in use by the Israeli air force and other foreign air forces too.

A company source said that the Heron systems bay and its electrical supply systems incorporate an array of systems, including an ECM sensor. The sources added that the evaluation is in the preliminary stages and that it will continue over the coming months.
