The Guinness book of records is on standby – soon the “Biggest  lie ever told to the international community” record will be broken.

The odd thing is that all parties involved know that this is a lie but they keep smiling as if they are part of a big day in the history of mankind. The agreement between Russia and the United States, aimed at cleaning Syria of chemical weapons, is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Russia, or more accurately Putin and Assad, are the only winners – Russia emerged as the only super power with influence in the Middle East, and Assad will keep his huge chemical weapons arsenal by simply hiding it from the naive American and European observers.

“Assad must have laughed his head off when he got the word about the agreement. He probably said something that showed what he thinks about the U.S., ” an Israeli source said last night.

The agreement was reached after three days of talks in Geneva between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It demanded that Assad give a full account of his secret stockpile within a week.

According to the worthless agreement international inspectors would rapidly get to work to eliminate all the weapons by the middle of next year – an “ambitious” target, in Kerry’s words.

And if one thought that there is a limit to the stupidity mixed with naivety, they were mistaken – If Syria reneges on a commitment to comply, Washington and Moscow pledged to cooperate at the United Nations to impose penalties – though these remain to be determined and Russia is highly unlikely to support military action, which U.S. President Barack Obama has said must remain an option.

Kerry said Obama retained the right to attack, with or without U.N. backing. That was the official word. The Americans have said many things lately, one more does not make any difference.
