Report: Hackers Target Israel

Around 400,000 malicious code attacks against Israel in the first quarter of 2014 * Israel ranked 38th in the list of countries responsible for distributing online threats.

11298424_m feature396,366 malicious code attacks targeting Israel were recorded between January and March 2014, making Israel the 49th most dangerous country in the world for internet browsing. This according to a new cyber-security report published by Kaspersky Lab

The experts in charge of monitoring these online threats explained that infecting users through their browsers is the most common way of spreading malicious software. This can be done in several ways:

Infection, when users visit an infected internet website and download the malware involuntarily. This is called “drive-by downloading”. To block this method of attack users need protective software that is capable of identifying the threats. Another method of infection is fooling users into downloading malware by making the malicious software appear to be legitimate.

Israelis aren’t only victims, they’re also the perpetrators: 0.09 of global attacks originate in Israel – 305,952 events were recorded between January and March 2014. Israel ranks 38th in the world in this regard, still holding the same rank as in the previous quarter.

Israel is not high on the list of spamming countries. While China is the world leader (22% of global spam) and the U.S. ranked second, Israel was responsible for only 0.78% of global spam.
