Major role of Rafael’s “Spice” in the aerial attacks in Gaza

The Rafael Spice smart bomb enables the Israeli airforce to make “surgical ” hit is Gaza

1024px-Spice_bomb_frontRafael has recently unveiled the joint operational capability of its Litening targeting pod with the company’s Spice smart bomb.

Last year Rafael confirmed that it is in advanced stages of developing the fifth generation of its best selling Litening targeting pod.

The new version is being developed with features that will facilitate its installation on large unmanned air system (UAS) like the Israel aerospace industries (IAI) Heron TP.

The IAF is equipping its fighter fleet with the New Rafael Spice 250 gliding bombs. The partial specifics of that advanced weapon systems has been unveiled.

Unlike the previous members of the Spice family that came in the kit form that was attached to 1000 and 2000 pounds

bombs, this time the Israeli company is supplying a complete system.

The Rafael Spice 250 can be loaded with 100 optional targets in a given area.

The weapon is navigated by a GPS/INS Satellite/Inertial Navigation system.

Spice 250 enables impact point update after release, using its communication module. In addition, it provides Battle Damage Indication (BDI) capability, by transmitting the target image just before hit.
