Businesses want to store and analyze massive volumes of data to gain competitive advantages, yet new technologies potentially introduce the risk of exposing sensitive data.” said Yanai Milstein, Aman Group Director of Informatica Division. “Now that Informatica Dynamic Data Masking supports Hadoop, chief information security officers can extend their data privacy policies easily and effectively to big data platforms and avoid unnecessary risks.”

Bhavish Sood and Arun Chandrasekaran, Research Directors at Gartner, Inc., a leading IT research and advisory firm, noted in a Oct. 22, 2013 Gartner report, “Technology Overview: Hadoop Maturity and Adoption Trends in Asia/Pacific” that, “Hadoop certainly wasn’t built with enterprise IT environments in mind because there is a shortage of robust security controls in Hadoop.”

Informatica customers can now apply Dynamic Data Masking policies to Hadoop without the need to customize applications or write any code. Security administrators can leverage existing access control policies and apply data masking or data redaction rules to specific data elements that have been classified as sensitive or confidential. Privileged users will be authorized to access the data while non-privileged users will only be able to see masked values. Informatica Dynamic Data Masking also supports other big data platforms, such as Teradata and Netezza.
