A new cyber attack is expected on Saturday

 The FCI (Financial Cyber Intelligence) Unit published a focused warning on Cyber 13930979_sattack of the distributed denial of service (DDoS) type, targeting several financial and governmental institutions in Israel and planned for the coming Saturday (1st of June). Among the targets for attack are: Israeli Police, governmental web site, municipalities, banks and others.

The attack, according to its organizers, follows the cyber attack of the 7th of April, and is called “OpIsrael V2”. The attack was organized in several social networks and internal forums, all in Arab countries. So far, about 2,000 hackers and activists expressed a wish to participate in the attack.

The FCI unit was established by Aman Group, with Terrogence and Clearsky as partners. Its goal is to provide real time alerts on cyber attacks to the financial sector and others, and to help companies and businesses in protecting their critical information systems.

Tzvika Alfi, VP of Aman Group, said that “although we have got used to treat alerts on DDoS threats as `Wolf, wolf` calls, it is important not to underestimate the capabilities and motivation of the hackers to attack. Since at some time the threats are going to become a real `wolf`, it is important to be always ready to defend oneselves from cyber attacks”.

Boaz Dolev, CEO of ClearSky, estimated that the planned attack is not a “high quality” one, but requires preparedness, since it is scheduled for Saturday – a day during which the participants are on holiday. Neverthelss, he estimates that the financial institutions have the tools to cope with this type of attack.

Gadi Aviran, CEO of Terrogence, added that “The capability of Terrogence to monitor activity in Arab and other languages adds power to the FCI unit solution of locating and providing relevant information for Israeli bodies and organizations of all the sectors.
