Another Israeli-developed unmanned air system (UAS) may be manufactured in Azerbaijan.
Azad Systems, an unmanned air systems (UAS) company from Azerbaijan, may soon begin to manufacture the Israeli-developed Orbiter-3 UAS.
Aazad was established in 2011 with assistance from Aeronautics Defense Systems, one of Israel’s leading UAS manufacturers. It is considered a joint venture with the Azeri government, and Aeronautics has an option to acquire 50% of the shares.
In recent years, Israel has become a major arms supplier to Azerbaijan.
A company source said that the plant is currently manufacturing the Israeli company’s Orbiter-2 UAS. He added that the Azeris want to deploy a more capable version the Orbiter-3 and confirmed that talks are underway.
The Orbiter-3 has a wingspan of 4.4 meters, a max takeoff weight of 30 kg and an endurance of 7 hours.
It carries a day/night payload. It is launched with a catapult and recovered by a combination of parachute and airbag.
