Lockheed Martin has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the Flight2 all-glass integrated flight deck for the Greek Navy’s P-3B Orion four-engine turboprops. The modification is part of the Navy P-3B maritime patrol aircraft modernization and upgrade program, which includes a mid-life upgrade to extend service life by 15,000 hours, phased depot maintenance, a Greece-indigenous mission integration and management system and the avionics upgrade.

The Rockwell Collins Flight2 modification allows the P-3Bs to continue operating in compliance with new and future communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management systems requirements, anywhere in the world. In the cockpit, seven LCDs will replace the original instrumentation, including a portrait-oriented primary and multifunction display in front of each pilot, and a large landscape mapping display in the center alongside two engine displays. The upgrade also adds integrated IFF Mode 5 capabilities. A similar avionics package is already installed on 15 Greek C-130s.

“P-3 pilots will experience a whole new level of flight through greater situational awareness, improved communications capabilities and useful alerts,” Dave Schreck, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins, told ainonline.com. “They’ll be able to achieve their missions more effectively to make it home safely.”
