Even in the world of startups, filled with breathtaking innovations, it is possible to bring something new – soon the very first accelerator in the world for military, defense and homeland security will begin operating.

The initiative came from iHLS, which deals with homeland security. The company has become a global leader and an international center for knowledge in the field and is gaining a lot of interest from leading companies, both in Israel and the world, who intend to take an active role in the program. The companies that can already be named as joining this initiative are Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), Incubit – Elbit System’s technology incubator, Verint, and more.

A call for proposals will soon be released, inviting startups to apply their nomination to the program. As mentioned previously, the programs is due to start mid-year, after meticulous screening which will begin in the following weeks.

The accepted startups will be offered a place in the workspace now being built. In this complex participants will enjoy a quality ecosystem which will include, among other things, lectures by various technological and professional experts in different fields, as well as meetings with representatives of leading companies, investors and delegations from across the globe.

In addition, the startups will receive extensive exposure in various conferences held by iHLS, as well as in the publications in various media channels focused on defense and homeland security.

The program will be managed by Tal Catran, of the pioneers of accelerators in Israel. Tal is experienced in guiding and accompanying entrepreneurs and startups, and an international speaker on entrepreneurship and innovation.

According to Tal, the uniqueness of this program is the intention of making available to startups, using the accompanying companies, technological support, counseling and assistance in every means available to them.

One CEO said that “the ability to offer a young company professional and technological guidance by leading mentors in the security industry is a unique opportunity and a recipe for success.”

A source in the security services who was familiarized with the program said this week that “this is the sort of thing where you say – how didn’t anyone think about this before now” and estimated that the tsunami of requests to participate has begun.

This unique initiative is creating quite the buzz among security industries before it even begun operating. “To provide the great needs of the Israeli security services and of foreign customers, we need original and innovative ideas, and this is precisely the way to find them and make them come true,” said the source.
