Egozi’s Fury – Failure After Failure

Egozi’s Fury – Failure After Failure

Every week more records of irresponsibility and stupidity are being broken. Israel is trying to stop a wave of murderous terror but at the same time whole cities are exposed to dangers of dangerous chemical substances.

I have already mentioned the fact that the large tank of ammonia in the Haifa bay is still in place in spite of years od debates and a row of decisions. Now there is another red light.

A freight train has dropped near the train station in Dimona a number of cars. The driver received no indication. Another freight train which was carrying bromine, a dangerous substance, collided with the cars. As a result from the impact, about 6.5 tonnes of bromine leaked out. Residents were instructed to stay at home in fear that the dangerous chemical substance might hurt them.

The matter is being investigated but it is already clear that there was more than one failure when it came to transporting this dangerous chemical by train.

So people will be questioned but probably nothing will change. In Israel the bodies entrusted with keeping us safe and healthy have quite the short memory.

Several weeks before Purim the blasts occur in all hours of the day and night. Boys throwing firecrackers which are sold in stores before the holiday.

Three children were rushed to the hospital in the past several days after being hurt by firecrackers. In Purim kids are injured much more by dangerous toys, when 90% of them are boys between the ages of 10-14. The most common injuries are burns (over 50%) and the rest are cuts, eyesight damage and other injuries. Between 2010-2014 more than 100 cases of injury by dangerous toys were recorded.

Importing and selling these dangerous toys is prohibited, but in Israel no decision in being enforced.

So how can these firecrackers, containing dangerous explosives, are being imported to Israel without it being stopped?

Someone is not doing their job properly, and in a country which has whole mechanisms to prevent explosives from entering its borders.

Some anomalies in Israel have turned into holy cows. In no democratic country does the military have a broadcast network which deals in politics. Israel has soldiers in uniforms interviewing politicians. This is the mother of all anomalies but so far it has been undealt with.

Last week the commander in chief Gadi Eizenkot, in a closed committee for foreign affairs and security of the Knesset, gave his unambiguous opinion against GLZ radio (galei zahal): “It is impossible to have a military radio station broadcasting differences in the Israeli society. This is not its job and it is undemocratic.”

Eizenkot said that he proposes to take out the station from the military’s responsibility. “There are as many standards there as two and a half battle fleets. This cannot go on. I’ve voiced my opinion to the Defense minister but unfortunately he did not accept it.”

The commander in chief has bravely voiced his opinion but the politicians couldn’t care less about this anomaly, and so soldiers in the IDF are dealing with reporting the happenings in the political arena. This suits a banana republic more than Israel. But on second thought, we almost are a banana republic.
