When we want to volunteer, we go to the internet, usually Google, decide which place is the most relevant to us, character and location wise, and after we choose an organization, we are referred to its website or Facebook page. There we get a phone number (which is not always up to date), connecting us to the organization’s office – and eventually, if we made it this far, we reach the person relevant to help us join it.

Now imagine that this whole bureaucratic procedure is replaced with three simple taps on your mobile device.

The organization was founded three years ago out of recognizing the need many people have, wanting to volunteer but having to pass the chance due to the nature of the volunteering and the hours it requires. The first stage gathered around 70 organizations who work with volunteers in order to create a large network in one place. The the organization began operating and in the past three years has created dozens of projects and has connected thousands of volunteers and nonprofit organizations.

A young Israeli start-up has made it its purpose to change the volunteering discourse in Israel and recently started developing the HelpApp – the easy way to volunteer as a company for the public’s benefit. This initiative is completely voluntary to all members of the project.

The application was created by Itay Matityahu and Nadav Shemesh. Matityahu majored in accounting and was the vice chairman and CEO of the students’ union at the College of Management Academic Studies for three years. After that he founded “Mit’orerim” (Waking Up), a social movement meant to train children and teenagers to operate in the communal space. Shemesh is an entrepreneur and developer and works as a team leader for BeTalent Group. Shemesh learned programming and design from an early age and worked as a freelancer in the fields of design and computer graphics for several before moving on to Mobile and Web.

This volunteering platform is based on an available to all and accessible application which is tailored to all different kinds of media – computers, mobile phones, tablets and more. The app is based of volunteers profiles and organizations profiles and offers a diverse and yound user experience. Furthermore, as part of the set of tools for the volunteer, the app includes an event page which can shared, galleries, updates on real-time volunteer work, rewards for volunteers and many more features which enhance the user’s experience in the world of volunteering.
