Artificial Intelligence offers many advantages and can assist people in coping with difficulties. A research conducted by artificial intelligence was recently published by researchers from the Arizona University. The research is based on a sophisticated algorythm to examine causal relationship of around 2,200 terror attacks and other activities commited by ISIS since the second half of 2014 and analyzed by Artificial Intelligence. The result offered some insights regarding the strategy of the terror organization, previously unnoticed. On the tactic level, researchers found an increasing use of spikes as a means to increase the kill capability of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The research has also revealed some of the methods of the terror organization, which indicate its modus operandi:

  1. Frequent aerial attacks of the coalition’s forces cause ISIS to avoid infantry activity and focus on attacks by IEDs.
  2. The organization uses explosive cars prior to an infantry attack. Paolo Shakarian, one of the researchers, said that “[the researchers] believe this relationship is because they want to prevent reinforcements from the Iraqi army getting out of Baghdad.”
  3. After Syrian Air Force aerial attacks, the organization shows an increase in arrests of people under its jurisdiction. The strategy behind this might be to weed out Syrian intelligence agents who might have played a role in the targeting of the strikes.

This innovative research by Shakarian and his colleagues has gained attention among many famous researchers. One of them is Elizabeth Quintana, director of military sciences at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), who said that this research could aid the forces taking part in the battle against the murderous organization. “The military has access to a lot of information,” she said, “They need a way to bring it down to a digestible format. Analytics is definitely the way to do that.”
