The ’Five Plus One’, comprising the five permanent members of the security council – namely the US, France, UK, China and Russia – and Germany, engaged in talks with Iran in Geneva, have begun discussing lifting the sanctions that have been in place against the Islamic Republic. Their future business deals with Iran are far more important than preventing it from attaining nuclear weapons.

The UN explains the move is designed to foil a future move by the Republicans in Congress, to conclude a deal with Teheran.

The world is dim-witted so the world will pay. Iran has been emerging as a powerful country, militarily speaking, complete with long range capabilities. Nevertheless, the world wants do business with them, to the tune of a few trillion dollars. So ’do not bother us with the facts’ concerning the future danger.

Israel’s defense establishment plans to build a fence along the border with Jordan, following the establishment of an airport at Timnah. This follows the completion of the border fence along Israel’s border with Egypt, about a year ago. Now, they are planning to fence-up Israel’s eastern border as well. According to the military plan, the first phase will consist of a 30 kilometer fence, complete with reconnaissance. The border with Jordan is currently Israel’s only border that isn’t barricaded.

This is all very fine, but this week’s TV new shoed drug smugglers from Sinai arriving at the border fence, producing a ladder and lo and behold, here they are over the “secure” fence, making their way on the other side. This time it’s drugs.

A border fence is a partial solution. If, in addition to cameras, there had been deadlier means in place, such as minefields, for instance, no one could get across.

So they will erect another fence, but it will be just as effective as the one along the border between Israel and Egypt.

As the US-led coalition fighter jets make a few symbolic air strikes in Syria against ISIS target, the Sunni organization’s spokesman claims it is them who have the upper hand. Of course he’s right. At least on paper, such a coalition could have hit this terrorist organization hard, taking the wind right out of its sails. But all the coalition is doing, is to merely go through the motions. This is no way to eradicate terror.

Thus, ISIS can declare this week, and not for the first time, they have their sights, Allah willing, on Paris and Rome. “After we blow up the Whitehouse, Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower, we want Kabul, Karachi, Riyadh, Teheran, Baghdad, Jerusalem, Cairo, Sana’a, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Amman. The Muslims will once again rule, lead and show the way everywhere.”

No doubt, there are those who sneer at the Islamic State’s territorial ambitions. Nevertheless, this sneering is misplaced given that as things now stand, no one is doing anything tangible to block them. The world doesn’t wish to be too bothered, and this is exactly what’s allowing ISIS to win.

It’s saddening to see former security figures attack Binyamin Netanyahu. Regardless of the issue of ’what did the PM do or did not do’, if he is so bad for the country, why didn’t those who serve under him simply resign when they were in his employ? Simple: they liked being in office too much to say anything. So the day after they are no longer there, they criticize him. They best remain quiet, for they are undermining the reputation of a lifelong career.

And finally, after IDF soldiers in patrol used a dog to deter stone throwers in Judea and Samaria, someone in the general staff got cold feet, and order the use of dogs be stopped. You mustn’t shoot, you cannot hit the demonstrators with a club and you cannot set a dog against someone who is putting your life in harm’s way with a well-aimed rock or stone.

So civilian dog trainers have taken the initiative. They are currently offering settlements in Judea and Samaria trained dogs, to be used in case of violent acts. They do not take any stupid orders from anyone. And it’s a good thing too.
