An undisclosed country in Africa recently signed a contract with the Israeli authorities to acquire armored vehicles. The deal was just cleared by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, which is in charge of approving military export deals.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has received orders from two military customers in Africa to supply nearly 100 additional RAM MK3 Light Armored Vehicles. All the vehicles will be produced at IAI-Ramta’s Division facilities in Israel.  Delivery is taking place these days and will continue throughout 2015. The new RAM Mk3 Light Armored Vehicles are slated to join previously supplied RAMs for deployment in military and peace-keeping missions.

All RAM MK3 vehicles have a proprietary monocoque hull constructed from armored steel to withstand a customer defined range of ballistic and mine threats. The vehicles are powered by an air-cooled turbocharged diesel engine that provides optimal power-to-weight ratio for extreme cross country mobility. Oversized 12.5 x 20 inches tires on run-flat wheels compliment this power ratio to deliver agility, excellent ground clearance and reliable operation on and off-road, with the ability to travel over long distances at normal speeds, even with punctured tires.

IAI said: “These additional contracts validate the continued confidence that our African customers have in the RAM vehicles and underscores the extent to which the RAM design is superbly suited for service throughout this continent’s extremes of climate and terrain.”

To date, IAI has supplied more than 450 RAM vehicles in various configurations to military and police customers around the world.
