IHLS TV Interview – Riki Ellison, Senior U.S. Missile Defense Expert

The main differences between Israeli and American missile defense capabilities lie at the two extreme ends – very short range rockets and intercontinental ballistic missiles. The U.S. has anti-ICBM capabilities which Israel lacks; Israel has made use of the very short range Iron Dome system, blocking rockets and mortars which aren’t a threat to the U.S.

This according to Riki Ellison, Chairman and Founder of the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance (MDAA). Ellison added that in order to be effective all layers of defense are required, especially for Israel, which faces threats like Syria’s chemical and biological warheads. Aaccording to assessments, said Ellison, by 2025 cyber warfare and directed energy capabilities – lasers – will be critical for missile defense.
