Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu completed his recent visit to Washington and went ahead to Los Angeles, to soak up some Hollywood atmosphere. Back home, however, we’re not living in a movie – Israel, despite the Prime Minister’s glowing media appearances – is left to fend for itself.

Agreements, frameworks and road maps with the Palestinians can be compared to the chemical weapons agreements with Syria or the nuclear agreements with Iran: Not worth the paper they’re written on.

Visiting the White House, meeting the U.S. President and getting applauds from AIPAC members is all well and good, but Israel still remains alone. That’s just how things are. If Russia was our ally things might have been different, but that’s not the case.

So after all the celebrations in the states, the impressive addresses and the new Israeli tourism video featuring Netanyahu, Israel still has to make decisions on its own without any foreign backing.

That just doesn’t work. The U.S. can’t read current world maps, Washington is living in virtual reality while in our region – and beyond – things look very different. Iran keeps developing nuclear weapons, Syria keeps hoarding chemical weapons and the Palestinians won’t sign any sort of agreement. After everybody returns home from their adventures abroad Israeli will have to face the world, saying “this isn’t Hollywood, come back to reality now.”
