“Countries are increasing their investment in sealing their borders, an effort directly connected to the fears from terror actions. Such investments are directed att advanced systems that augment and replace many of the physical barrier used in the past for such applications” Brigadier General (Ret) Nir Mariash – Director, Land & C4I Homeland Security Business Line at Elbit Systems told iHLS.

Prior to his appointment, Mariash was the Head of Israel National Police Technological Department from 2008-2011, where he was responsible for R&D, procurement and maintenance of all police technological assets. He brings a wealth of strategic expertise to his position, having served as Commander of the Galilee sub District from 2006-2008 in the area bordering Lebanon and Syria, and as Police Chief of Haifa during 2002-2006, a period of massive terror attacks and the Second Lebanon War during which Haifa suffered hundreds of rocket attacks.

Mariash said that Elbit System has identified a growing demand for border security and control systems that can efficiently and securely manage the identities of personnel legally entering a country through the official ports of entry. “countries now are more aware for the need to know who is present in their sovereign area at any given moment” Mariash said, Elbit systems is using its vast experience in developing sensors and network based defense systems to offer the systems that are suited for homeland security applications.

Mariash added that the HLS solution offered by the company are tailor-made to the specific needs of the customer. “Each company or organization best know what are the imminent threats and working with us is the best way to come up with the best operational solution.”
