ChemImage Sensor Systems (CISS) develops innovative chemical imaging sensors that address the landscape of drugs, chemical, biological and explosive (CBE) threats. The company has developed a series of chemical imaging sensors for point, proximity, remote and standoff detection and identification in both fixed site and on-the-move configurations, in order to protect military troops, security personnel, and citizens.

The applications of the detector include law enforcement contraband detection, searching for explosives or explosive precursors in uncontrolled environments, detection of hazardous chemicals, critical infrastructure or private security screening, screening of people or vehicles at entry/traffic control points or border crossings.

According to the company’s website, VeroVision – a portable shortwave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral imaging detection system – is designed to address the growing need for portable, safe and easy-to-use sensing technology for military, public safety, ordinance disposal and law enforcement personnel to screen for chemicals, explosives, and drugs of abuse.

Its design keeps user safety in mind by allowing the user to stay back up to 20 meters from the suspected threat while providing both wide-area and close-up imaging for the detection of materials of interest.

Unlike other point detection systems on the market, VeroVision gives users rapid access to visual information to improve situational awareness and reduce the response time to react to potential threats. The ability to target varying material concentrations in the field is essential, and VeroVision is capable of detecting both bulk amounts and surface residues of the material of interest.

Lightweight and portable, VeroVision is easily deployed and is powered from conventional AC power sources, a small portable generator or from an optional battery pack.

Recently, VeroVision received a Platinum 2016 Technology Innovation Award from Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace publications. The Platinum award recognizes companies that offer the highest level of military, aerospace, and avionics product design solutions.
