The confirmation of the conciliation agreement with Turkey forces Israel to take an “examining” stance towards the defense relationship with this country, according to sources in Israel.

As one source said, the rapprochement between Turkey and Russia and its position regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict demand “extra precaution before any substantial measures are being taken”. He also pointed out that the US has been concerned with the Turkish-Russian rapprochement: “Everything should be taken into account before the agreement takes a practical form”, he said.

According to euractiv.com, the US has started transferring nuclear weapons stationed in Turkey to Romania, against the background of worsening relations between Washington and Ankara.  The transfer has been very challenging in technical and political terms.

Some 50 US tactical nuclear weapons have been stationed at Turkey’s Incirlik air base, approximately 100 kilometres from the Syrian border, since the Cold War.

The US-Turkey relations had deteriorated so much following the failed coup in July that Washington no longer trusted Ankara to host the weapons.

The American weapons are being moved to the Deveselu air base in Romania, a source told Euroactive.com. However, the Romanian foreign ministry strongly denied the information that the country has become home of US nuclear weapons.
