The threat of violence continues to affect Jewish religious organizations all over the world.

That’s why funding is vital when it comes to planning initiatives for enhancing security around synagoges, schools etc.

In New Jersey, nonprofit grants intended for security equipment, such as cameras and surveillance systems, lighting, card access readers, blast film, fencing and bollards (short posts used to protect an area against vehicles) were awarded to 58 recipients, including 16 Jewish organizations. The grants were awarded by the Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

According to Greater Media Newspapers, citing the Jewish Federation security taskforce, “in total, New Jersey-based applicants received $4.26 million, more than double than last year; and the number of Jewish organizations receiving grants represents a five-fold increase from 2015. It will bring more than a million dollars in security upgrades to the Jewish community.”

The focus of the Jewish Federation’s security taskforce is stated as bringing enhanced awareness and preparedness to the community as well as the tools and knowledge to respond to security needs

The local Sheriff’s Office advised the Federation and its partners in applying for grants and accompanied them in security assessments of local synagogues and organizations.

Many countries are well aware of the special security needs of Jewish organizations and  institutes, allocating funds for the enhancement of their security.  The various security forces cooperate with these institutions on the municipal, local – as in the US, and federal levels, in order to achieve this goal.
