Big Demand For IAI’s BirdEye 650D UAV

A number of armies negotiate the purchase of the BirdEye 650D from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) .

The small Tactical UAV has capabilities that are very important to infantry battalions. The BirdEye 650D is the most advanced version of this small UAV.

Designed for operations at the tactical level, the BirdEye 650D is an affordable system that requires a small logistical footprint, simple operation, short reaction time and high mobility. BirdEye 650D is a generic platform that can be easily configured with different payloads, including electro-optical gimbaled payloads covering different spectral bands, and passive RWR/RWL electronic countermeasures (ECM).  

BirdEye 650D can conduct precision electronic warfare by deploying communications jamming (COMJAM) close to the enemy, thus minimizing interference with friendly forces.

The BirdEye 650D has a max takeoff weight of 30 kg and can carry a 6.5 kgs payload that will be soon grow to 8 kg.

IAI says that the UAV  has an operational Line Of Sight range of 150  km. It is equipped with a special day/night payload.

The BirdEye 650D is launched by a pneumatic launcher and recovered by a combination of a parachute and air bags.

According to IAI, hundreds of UAVs of this type have already been sold.
