The global “summit committee” for air & missile defense which took place in Rishon Letzion today has concluded.

Hundreds of participants came to take part in the conference which hosted experts from Israel and the world. “This conference has become the most significant event in the field of missile defense,” said a senior representative for a European organization for missile defense.

iamd2The change in the challenges to air defense in the modern era is a well-known phenomenon. The need for aerial superiority on the battlefield in tandem with the need to defend the nation’s skies against an array of aerial threats require a multidisciplinary response. The imperative to tackle the use of methods of aerial operation in a sphere defended by means of advanced aerial defense systems must be dealt with along with the imperative to provide a response to a gamut of aerial threats, from ballistic and other missiles, through cruise missiles, rocket and mortar fire, to miniaturized, explosive-carrying UAVs.

Representatives from the IDF, ministry of defense, security industries and the academy heard reviews from the top experts in the field. Israel – being the only country in the world to deploy a multi-layered system against missiles and rockets – has become crucial to follow for experts, as the conference clearly showed.

iamd3During the convention it was revealed that the US has been experimenting with the Iron Dome’s Tamir interceptor missiles prior to their integration in a multi-layered defense system against Russian in Europe. This was revealed by major general Glenn Bramhall of the US Army and Air Missile Defense Command. Bramhall did not mention when these experiments were conducted.

Representatives from several countries, who understand the threat posed by missiles and rockets, said that Israel is an example for a country who understands the need for an efficient defense from this growing threat – a threat coming from countries like Iran and North Korea, but also from terror organizations who managed to obtain such missiles.

The large audience in the conference proves that there is a growing understanding throughout the world of the need to protect the population from the threat of missiles and rockets.iamd4
