Uk Government May Be Cutting Border Control Budget

The United Kingdom may be significantly cutting down its budget for border policing. This worrying trend was revealed by the British Labour Party, that indicated the government was intent on introducing “damaging cuts” to Border Force, the agency responsible for border control.

Border Force employees have been informed that they should expect cuts of up to 6 percent over the next two years, said Shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham. He, apparently, was informed by “whistleblowers” within the agency.

Burnham accused the government of concealing the cuts, and said the move would be “a very serious mistake,” especially in the aftermath of the Brussels terrorist attacks.

“This is the worst possible time to be cutting UK border security. I believe that, in her heart of hearts, Theresa May knows that and that is why she is going to great lengths to hide these cuts,” Burnham stated.

“This is not good enough. The public has a right to know about the government’s plans for the UK border and that is why I call on them to publish these figures without delay and to drop these damaging cuts.”

Border Force was established by Home Secretary Theresa May in 2012 out of its predecessor, the UK Border Agency. It is under the purview of May’s Home Office, and is responsible for border controls and border checks at airports, ports, and international railways stations.

A Home Office spokesperson commented on the accusations, saying the government would “take all the necessary measures” to assure proper border security, and that the next budget should include extra provisions for border controls.
