Parrot has created a unique drone that can fly for 45 minutes on a single charge and reach speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour. The company’s new drone, Disco, was unveiled at the 2016 International CES, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas last week. It is the Swiss company’s latest entry in one of tech’s fastest-growing markets.

Disco is also smart, and is said to push the consumer drone market to a whole new level.

The Disco can fly itself or follow instructions from you via an app, and to make it even more appealing – it is ready to fly from the moment you take it out of the box. Just mount the wings and launch it in the air.

You’ll still be able to fly Disco by yourself, or perform tricks in the air. But the drone will make sure it doesn’t get into any accidents. Even better, the drone doesn’t just take-off automatically as soon as you lift it up in the air, it also lands automatically with help of ground sensors. Using the Parrot Skycontroller, you can get a first-person view of everything it’s seeing on your tablet screen. You don’t need any training to fly the drone.

The Disco can also be used to orbit a point on the ground in “Loiter” mode, and has a wireless range of 2 kilometers. If it leaves that range, it can come back on its own.

The company plans to launch the drone at some point later this year, though a precise launch timeframe and a firm price have not been revealed yet. About 2.9 million drones are expected to sell this year, according to an estimate by the Consumer Technology Association.

Forecasts suggest civilian drones could be a multibillion dollar market in a few years.
