It may be that Russia is developing an unmanned aerial vehicle designed to go against the American F-35 stealth jet. The clue to this development came from the electronic systems manufacturer KRET, who presented an interesting UAV model at the MAKS Air Show in Moscow.

According to the company’s first deputy chief executive officer Vladimir Mikheev, this aircraft model is more than just a sleek promotional display – it is an advanced military UAV being developed by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

Mikheev told Flighglobal that UAC is in charge of two military UAV projects, one in development and the other is still in the concept phase. More importantly, he revealed some interesting details on the UAV’s main capabilities. According to him, the aerial vehicle was designed to detect American Lockheed Martin F-35 and F-22 stealth jets and Northrop Grumman B-2, by using X-Band electromagnetic frequency and an Ultra High Frequency (UGF) radar.

Mikheev also added that the electronic warfare system KRET is providing the project not only gives an electromagnetic defense sphere around the vehicle to counter air-to-air missiles, but also cloaks it from radars. Furthermore, the UAV looks a lot like Northrop’s X-47B only with added two lift fans on each wing and vertical stabilisers.

Russia is racing against the U.S. in electronic warfare for some decades and this seems to be yet another attmept to rise above the Americans. Look out, F-35, the Russians are right behind you!
