During AUS&R 2015 a certificate of appreciation was given to Shabtai Brill, who served in the intelligence corps. Brill was the very first person who thought of the idea, back in 1969, to operate a remote controlled model airplane with a camera mounted on it above the Egyptian army’s stations. The rest, as they say and as is seen throughout the day in the convention – is history. The certificate of appreciation was presented by Liel Even Zohar, a member of the Rishon Letzion city council and Arik Davidi, chairman of the conference.

Then followed technical surveys of the unmanned systems manufactured in Israel – ground, aerial and maritime. In the first seat some of Israel’s top experts on unmanned systems spoke on the most advanced systems developed by the leading companies in the Israeli defense industry. IAI, for example, is presenting its Katana unmanned maritime vehicle: An advanced ship which is stirring interest around the world and is considered the most advanced of its kind.

The second seat, which is taking place this very moment, deals with the miniaturization of unmanned systems. The vehicles manufactured in Israel and the world are getting smaller and it seems, based on experts in the unmanned aerial vehicles industry, that this trend is not only justified, but is becoming more common and will be even more so in the future, thus providing a solution to the need for more compact and more comfortable vehicles at a lower cost.

Meanwhile, in the exhibition outside the conference hall, there is a lot of interaction between the participants and presenters, and many companies are talking about contacts that look promising. A group of businessmen from various countries around the world who came to the conference are meeting with representatives of Israeli companies. One such businessman, who requested to stay anonymous, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to meet in one place so many people we want to do business with. It was worth flying so many hours because here we are able to do what usually takes weeks”.
