The Russian company Systemprom has developed a universal robotic system. Defended by armor, the system can be used for a variety of military missions as well as non-military ones. This new vehicle, called URP-01G, can detect and attack targets, can help security services officers fight terror organizations, firemen battling against home and wood fires, for authorities in charge of areas suffering a biological or chemical disaster – such as a plant using dangerous materials – and aid the forces watching a country’s borders in conflicted areas, as well as many other missions.

The Russian robot weighs about seven tons and can carry a load of up to two tons as it moves at 40 km/h. Another unique feature is its ability to survive a two meter fall without suffering any substantial damage that might render it inoperable.

Aleksey Simulin, head of the department for science and technology at Systemprom, which invented the vehicle, said that the robot can carry a wide range of different platforms, so it can in fact be used for different operations once proper adjustments of its load is done. Furthermore, the robot is designed in a way that can be transported by truck or plane to soldiers or fire fighters in need of its services.

Today the URP-01G can be operate by an operator sitting in front of computer screens about ten kilometers away from the robot, but the company has proudly declared that it intends to turn the robot completely autonomous by implementing it with artificial intelligence systems.

Although the URP-01G is in initial stages, its production is set to be made with components made in Russia only. Systemprom has already signed an agreement to supply two different versions of the vehicle – the first one to operate automatic weapon and a grenade launcher, while the other is meant to assist in reconnaissance and intelligence operations.
