North Korea continues to be a main source for global and regional instability due to its reckless behaviour. Every so often threats are made on the world’s countries, and especially on the United States and South Korea. Sometimes it’s threats of an actual attack, sometimes it’s of a cyber attack. Now it seems that to the threats’ arsenal made by North Korea, chemical and biological weapons are added.

There isn’t too much information regarding the way of life in the country of North Korea, but the little we do know is thanks to people running from authorities and arriving by a difficult route to safety. Every now and then a high level official with a key position in the closed administration manages to escape the terror of the tyrant Kim Jung Un, and reveal a small (and terrifying) window about what happens in the dark.

The latest of these is a scientist under the pseudonym of “Lee” (47) who worked for a microbiology research center and escaped to Finland, where he provided valueable information to a human rights organization that deals with North Korea about experiments in humans that the country conducts on its subjects with chemical weapons. This isn’t the first time that news about inhuman experiments being done on the citizens of the dictatorship, as defectors in the past have already made similar reports, but the main difference is that this time, Lee was carrying 15 GB worth of evidence.

Whereas others who fled the country gave oral testimonies on their experiences and on the happenings inside the closed country, few could provide substantial evidence for it, and for this evidence provided by Lee now technology must be thanked. While there is a constant threat of information theft hovering over the use of computerized networks, some use this information not for personal gain, but to expose wrongdoings being commited in places unreachable to most of the world or information being kept secret.

It’s hard to tell how much North Korea will be affected by substantial evidence leaking to the west about what’s being done in its darkest corners, but more important is the affect this information will have on its citizens, if only it will come to light.
