airportL-3 Communications introduced ClearScan – a new high-throughput explosives detection system (EDS) for screening cabin bags at leading airports worldwide. The system uses Computed Tomography (CT) and an advanced algorithm for detecting explosives, which allows travelers to leave liquids and electronics in their bags at the security checkpoints – a much more convenient solution for anyone going through security check in the airport.

The system has a scanning capacity of over 500 bags per hour offering more convenient and less time-consuming bag search, meaning high throuput and efficiency in airport security checkpoints.

L-3 also introduced IntelliCore – a software solution for checkpoint operations, which enhances checkpoint security capabilites, including remote screening, real-time operational monitoring and reporting, image archive retrieval and directed bag search. The system enhances security while improving the travelers’ satisfaction.

Both systems are designed to be integrated with automated tray return systems.

The questione remains whether these new systems will allow passengers to stroll freely through the airport and into the terminal gates, or will long lines of people waiting for a more thorough examination, often individual and physical, remain a claimed necessity for borders and passengers’ security.
