A person carrying a suspicious package climbed the White House fence on Sunday night. He was later arrested by officials. No details regarding this person’s name or gender were revealed, but government officials in charge of the safety of the President are annoyed and concerned. This is a recurring incident.

According to the International Business Times last September Omar J. Gonzales climbed the fence on the north side of the White House. Following this, a second barrier was erected in front of the premises, but failed to stop the flow. In October the 23-year-old mentally ill Dominic Adesanya, jumped over the permanent fence, and in February 2015, Mauricio Aguirre of Washington tried to climb it.

According to Bloomberg Politics there is a plan to add steel spikes to the fencing surrounding the White House grounds as a deterrent. The National Park Service has already submitted the plan to dissuade people from attempting to jump. According to the plan the spikes would be affixed to the existing fence as a temporary solution, until a permanent replacement fence can be designed and erected.

According to the plan: “every additional second of response time, provided by a fence that is more difficult to climb, makes a material difference in ensuring the president’s safety and protecting the symbol that is the White House.” officials acknowledge, however, that a balance must be struck between keeping the first family and staff safe while preserving the openness of the White House to the public.
