Fast Draw – Iran’s Bluff

Iran nuclear weapons programUp until now, we knew it was all a bluff, a trick. Now, it has become official. The US backed down and is now willing to put up with a nuclear Iran. This shameful capitulation, at the end of a pitiful saga on the part of the US and some of its counterparts vis-à-vis Iran, has clinched it: Iran will not only become a nuclear-threshold nation, but also, within a shot while, a nation with its own nuclear arsenal – complete with long range ballistic missiles designed to launch said arsenal.

Washington and Teheran are discussing a compromise that would allow Iran to hold on to a major part of the technology required to enrich uranium. Nevertheless, Iran will also “reduce its capability to produce nuclear weapons”. This, according to diplomatic sources.

According to the American proposal, most of Iran’s 10,000 centrifuges will remain in place. They will however have an altered configuration, so they will produce lower-grade uranium.

Teheran has consistently refused demand by the US to drastically cut the number of centrifuges used to enrich uranium. They can be used to manufacture nuclear arms. Experts argued that reducing their number is more useful than reducing the grade of uranium they enrich, because the centrifuges’ operation is reversible, allowing Iran to quickly re-calibrate them to enrich high-grade uranium. One diplomat said the deal could consist of additional limitations that could ensure oversight and control of Iran’s nuclear program. It’s all mindless chatter: no one would be able to oversee the implementation of the agreement.

What we are learning about the unfolding agreement with Iran, is that it amounts to a surrender before Iran, that the latter succeeded in pulling the wool over the whole world’s eyes. It is amazing to see how weak the US is when facing a country like Iran, which seems to have realized all it takes to beat Washington’s innocents is smiles.

The problem is for the most part Israel’s. But here too, nothing at all had been done for real, nor anything of substance shall be done either, to stop Iran’s race towards the bomb. The train has left the station, bound for the final destination.
