Mideast Iran Military Exercise

Israeli experts who saw the footage of what the Iranians presented as their “suicide drone” told iHLS this is yet another tall tale from Iran.

“At most, this drone is no more than a basic drone which can be fitted with an explosive payload. The same can be done with practically any unmanned aerial system (UAS) flying around nowadays,” says one expert the iHLS news desk has spoken with.

According to this expert, the Iranians keep presenting ’new innovations” each month, most of which are “a few pieces of plastic held together”.

Iran’s UAS industry is far from advanced. This much is clear, although Iran has unveiled “new” models only a few weeks ago.

The experts say a suicide drone is the term given to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which can fly above a certain sector, identify a target and dive in on it in order to take it out using an explosive charge.

Israel has already developed this kind of UAS and produced it: Israel Aerospace Industry (IAI) manufactures a system called HAROP. It is a highly advanced drone capable of hovering above a certain area and eliminate a target on sight.

As explained above, the Iranians unveiled, in the course of their latest military exercise, a drone capable of carrying a fitted explosive charge. “If this is even operational at all, then it’s a very basic system,” said one expert.

Iran has made some achievements, in particular in the field of ballistic missiles. When it comes to other fields, Iran unveils, on occasion, military systems which experts are hardly impressed with.
