The conference and exhibition attracted more than 3500 visitors.
Media representatives from all over the world “stormed” the AUS&R 2014 event yesterday, in a way that surprised even the veterans of Israel’s defense industries. Some 100 reporters and TV crews came yesterday, braving the stormy weather, to cover the unmanned systems conference and expo.
Despite the limitations, ranging from winds blowing at 60kmh to heavy rain, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) demonstrated one of its UAVs. The event also showcased a display of unmanned ground vehicles – including state of the art Israeli Police robots which demonstrated tracing, digging up and dismantling an explosive device. Also exhibited: the “AMSTAF” and “Pro-Jeep”, which are already deployed in several conflict zones worldwide.
One of the senior IAI officials who attended the event said “we got unprecedented media coverage. You’ve all outdone yourselves, pulling off the impossible in such harsh weather.”
IAI’s Super Heron UAV attracted a great deal of attention, as did light hovermasts and other systems by Israeli and foreign companies such as Schiebel from Austria, which exhibited its unmanned helicopter.
“You have done something truly incredible, setting a new benchmark for this kind of events in Israel – despite the weather conditions,” said a senior defense establishment official who attended the AUS&R 2014 event.
