Lockheed Martin’s open architecture command and control system allow operation of multi unmanned air systems (UAS) from one place. “We are providing the best solution for ground control system for UAS,” Jay McConville director, business development at LM unmanned integrated systems told i-HLS.

McConville will present the company’s solution in the AUS&R 2014 event tomorrow, Wednesday, November 26 – under any weather conditions.

“I’m in Israel to establish ties with Israeli companies that may work with us on integration the solution,” he said.

The Lockheed Martin official said that the open architecture of the solution allows many types of UAS to be integrated into it “that gives and operational advantage to every operator of UAS,” he added.

A recent test probed the crucial need of different types of UAS to “talk” to each other.

A team of Lockheed Martin and Kaman Unmanned Aircraft successfully demonstrated its ability to aid in firefighting operations. During the demonstration, the Indago quad rotor effectively identified hot spots, and provided data to an operator who directed the unmanned K-MAX helicopter to autonomously extinguish the flames. In one hour, the unmanned K-MAX helicopter lifted and dropped more than 24,000 pounds of water onto the fire.

This demonstration signifies the potential for adapting proven unmanned systems and their advanced sensors and mission suites to augment manned firefighting operations,  more than doubling the amount of time on station,” said Kaman Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Neal Keating.
