Thousands of words could describe the ongoing debacle in Jerusalem, but we can also put it succinctly. This fiasco is so great, it really does not take much wording.

It is just too late. Following last night’s assassination attempt on the life of rightwing activist Yehuda Glick, the Minister for Internal Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch decided to seal Temple Mount off altogether. This is the first time the mountain has been closed to the entire public since the late Prime Minister Sharon (then opposition leader) made his pilgrimage there back in September 2000.

Well done, minister. Had you not been so busy in recent months, declaring “There is no uprising in Jerusalem”, had you instead ordered a firm hand be taken – then, perhaps things would have been different. You failed big time. And just in case you did want to adopt a harder line and they did not let you, then you should have handed in your notice.

Temple Mount is no longer in Israeli hands. Soon, the whole of Jerusalem will no longer be in Israeli hands either. The government of Israel is not living up to its duty to maintain public order.

In Glick’s case, the writing was on many Facebook walls and websites dedicated to hatred. He has been marked by Islamic terrorism, yet the Israeli police claimed this morning Glick never lodged a complaint. Well, really? Where is police intelligence? Any child could see what was going on and what could transpire.

Given the cowardice of the Government in Jerusalem, there is no wonder what this is what has happened, or more precisely, that this has been the situation thus far.

Jerusalem had been taken over by gangs of terrorists, and all the police is doing is announcing that everything is under control. So hear this: nothing is under control. Israel is not applying its own sovereignty in its own Capita. It could be worse still, but the current situation is already highly severe.

I just heard the police is going to send hundreds of additional police officers to Jerusalem. What a waste. Eradicating terror in Jerusalem calls for radical measures, not putting on airs.

What the police and the government have done thus far is one big show, a bad play with a great deal of bloodshed in the background.
