The capabilities of the RAFAEL missiles carried on combat helicopters have been upgraded.
The main upgrade is the increased range of the NLOS version from 25 to 30 km.
According to a Rafael source successful tests have been made with the increased range version of the Spike NLOS.
The Israeli company has also performed tests with a Spike NLOS that has been equipped with a laser sensor.
At this stage the laser sensor will be used to identify a target, but later it will be used as a homing sensor in addition to the CCD/IR sensor.
The Spike NLOS is carried by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) Apache helicopters as well as by combat helicopters in numerous armed forces.
The RAFAEL source also revealed that the company has increased the range of the Spike LR from 4 to 5 km. This version can also be launched from a combat helicopter.
