In the course of Operation Protective Edge, there have been dozens of cases of stone throwing terror attack in the roads throughout Judea and Samaria. Everyone was preoccupied with the rockets and mortar shells, so this lethal terrorism received only little attention.

Last week, yet another stone shelling injured a baby girl from Yitzhar.

It seems that when it comes to this intensifying Intifada (uprising) of stones, there is a conspiracy of silence in Israel. All the recent cases did receive media coverage, yet only barely, as though this was some natural disaster.

In recent weeks, terrorist activities intensified throughout Judea and Samaria. About a week ago, a father was seriously injured near Gush Etzion, and his wife and baby girl were also injured in the attack. Stones, large pebbles and Molotov cocktails are thrown on a daily basis. All this makes for substantial terrorist attacks.

A TV morning show earlier today featured a woman whose husband was seriously injured by a stone thrown at them as they were driving their car, causing them to overturn. They survived only by miracle. The woman added that when she had asked the local brigade commander why the IDF did not react to this stone throwing terrorism more intensely, his response was “so as not to cause the situation in the area to intensify”.

You heard it loud and clear: the IDF is not putting a stop to this stone throwing terrorism and reacts using only minor force in order not to intensify the situation in the area.

Look here: the situation in the area is already boiling over. The Intifada of stones and Molotov cocktails is already here, and it will start claiming victims very soon. But the IDF, probably in line with directions from the government, does not wish to intensify the situation in the area. Someone simply lost his mind.

The IDF must take every measure at its disposal to nip these stones and Molotov cocktails in the bud. The IDF has all the means to do so. All it takes is an order to do so.

Had stones been thrown along the main road between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, various forces, both visible and covert, would have been deployed complete with night vision goggles and snipers to prevent the next attack. Along the roads in Judea and Samaria, it seems the Palestinians are ‘permitted’ to injure Israelis, with only minor reaction “so as not to intensify the situation in the area”. Let me reiterate: if these are the instructions, then someone in the government really lost it. After all, these attacks are terrorism plain and simple. They have already caused fatalities in the past – so what’s going on?

The desire to maintain good relations with the Palestinian Authority is important in the framework of Israel’s global considerations. Nevertheless, allowing this to abandon the safety of residents in Judea and Samaria is a travesty. This is a disgrace for Israel’s decision makers.
