In response to the Obama administration’s latest Ukraine-related sanctions against Russia that bars imports of Russian-made Kalashnikov AK-47s and other rifles using Kalashnikov action or parts, the Russian Weapon Company Group (RWC Group) announced recently “that a limited inventory of product will become available.”

The company also said, “Due to these importation sanctions, no additional shipments from Russia will be made for the foreseeable future.”

The new sanction only applies to Russian made AKs, which directly impacts the RWC Group. The Obama administration issued the sanctions in response to Russia’s incursions into Ukraine and the apparent downing of a Malaysian passenger jet by a Russian-made surface-to-air missile.

Shortly after the sanctions were imposed, a spokesperson for the RWC Group told Homeland Security Today that, “Until such time that we fully assess the sanctions, we will not be making any comment.”

RWC Group said in an announcement that, all of its products are within full compliance of the sanctions that have been recently imposed by the US Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

AK rifles and parts that are imported from other nations are still legal. The sanction also doesn’t apply to Russian-made Kalashnikov firearms or parts that have already been imported into the United States.
