50calibersniperIt’s a revolution in low caliber weapons-The Defense Advanced research agency  of the United States, DARPA, has announced the first 50 caliber bullet which can change course during flight, in order to achieve maximum accuracy in shooting.

The DARPA web site reports that the bullet is being developed as part of its EXACTO  project.

The bullet has the ability to change its flight course using a novel optical guidance system. It is controlled by the sniper who tracks the flight path and can tune indirectly to the desired target.

The optical system takes into account external conditions such as weather conditions, wind, target movement, and other factors which may cause undershooting.

The research conducted as part of the EXACTO project is primarily designed to improve the level of military snipers performance under inconvenient and tough working conditions like strong winds or dust, such as in Afghanistan. The crucial requirement during battle is that the sniperis are able to respond quickly and accurately, because a miss endangers both the sniper and his unit.
